Inco has been a community supporter throughout our 85-year history in Port Colborne. In large part, Port Colborne prospered and grew because of Inco. At one time, we had a bowling alley and a gymnasium and both were centres of recreational activity for the citizens. In the 1950s, we were also a major player in the development of the Port Colborne General Hospital.
Today, we provide scholarships and sponsor regional fairs, Junior Achievement, the Navy League, Air Cadets, Scouts, Marine Rescue Unit, the Santa Claus Parade and minor sports teams in the community. In terms of arts and culture, we support the Showboat Festival Theatre, the Operatic Society and the Museum.
In our annual United Way drive at the plant our employees raised $2,000 (Cdn. $3,000) last year and the company contributed another $3,500 (Cdn. $5,000). We also work with our local food bank providing storage space for the tons of food collected in their annual food drive.
