The foundation of a company that survives for over 100 years is built on more than bricks and mortar. More than policies and pronouncements. More than the will of executives or the vagaries of the marketplace. Inco's success and longevity find their source in the shared values of its people, in a common belief in professional integrity and principled behaviour, in an inherited sense of purpose and community.
Inco does not maintain a set of written values. It lives them every day, in the professional and ethical way we conduct our business.
Inco also takes a more formal and prescriptive approach to assuring the highest standards of behaviour in specific areas of our business. We maintain Employment and Human Rights Standards (PDF-14K). We have written policies regarding Professional Conduct (PDF-11K), including guiding principles on ethical standards and conflicts of interest, as well as Environmental, Health and Safety. We are signatories to the Mining Association of Canada's draft principles, titled "Towards Sustainable Mining." We support the principles of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and live by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
If one phrase characterizes Inco, it might be this: We take responsibility and act responsibly.

In 2003, new legislation was implemented in Canada and the U.S. to reinforce compliance with standards of ethical corporate behaviour. At Inco, we believe this new legislation affirms the way we've always done business, with integrity, honesty and respect.
