Inco works in partnership with our many Communities of Interest, shareholders, indigenous peoples, customers, employees, host communities, governments and various non-governmental organizations, on issues of mutual concern.
Working collaboratively is the preferred way of doing business at Inco. At our operations in Sudbury, Ontario, Thompson, Manitoba and Indonesia, we have endeavoured to earn the respect of our communities by pursuing relationships based on transparency, inclusion and goodwill. Earning respect also means acknowledging that there is always room for improvement, always an opportunity to move forward. The very nature of our development projects in New Caledonia and Voisey's Bay – where we have entered into landmark agreements with Labrador's aboriginal peoples – reflects the meaningful dialogue and involvement we have experienced with those whose lives are affected by our operations.
Our willingness to engage with diverse stakeholders is also reflected in our commitment to sustainable development, as articulated by our Environmental, Health and Safety Policy. Inco recognizes that sustainable development includes commitments to health, safety and the environment through a balanced approach to economic, technical and social issues.
As readers of our first social responsibility report will readily see, Inco continues to work with our many Communities of Interest on issues ranging from community development to environmental stewardship. For more about our activities in our communities, go to Community Development:
